Sweet Sixteen

Age 6

In four days, I will be sixteen years old. Uhm, yikes. As you may remember, or will come to find out, turning sixteen is an enormous turning point in everyone’s life. New obligations, responsibilities, receiving a driver’s license, taking AP classes, pressures to get a job and to start searching for a college. That’s plenty to get my parent’s freaked. Most teenagers look at their sixteenth birthday as this thrilling and  exciting day they’ve awaited for years; they’re finally being taken a bit more seriously, they’re being considered young adults rather than children. But I was raised in Neverland, where growing up never existed; it never truly occurred to me that it would actually happen one day. Until recently when I looked myself in the mirror and thought, does this mean I have to grow up? I thought that growing up meant leaving Neverland behind and forgetting about all the magic that waited there. I was honestly scared of growing up, I didn’t want to forget; I always want to be able to say that I believe in fairies and magic. That I believed in Disney. But then I remembered one of my favorite Peter Pan quotes from the book by J.M. Barrie. Peter says this to Wendy just before he returns to Neverland, this time without her.

“You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you. That’s where I’ll be waiting.”

Just because we grow up, doesn’t mean the magic does. No matter how old or young, or how far away we’ve fallen, that wonder and that magic we all knew and fully believed in, it never really goes away. It stays with us through our lives, just waiting for us to remember. Waiting for us to come back to Neverland. And as for me, I don’t think I ever plan to leave.

Learn Me Right - Brave

Okay, so I know I said no princesses, but in honor of brave I decided to make this. It's an a cappella version of the song Learn Me Right from the new Brave soundtrack. I'm singing all three parts. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it! Hope you like it!

Finding A Voice

It’s a beautiful song, isn’t it? Esmerelda touches hearts and makes people cry with her desperate cry in her song. But how many people truly understand all that it stands for? God Help the Outcasts isn’t just relevant to Quasimodo and Esmerelda, I know how much it means to so many people today.
Growing up, I was never the “cool” kid. My family moved to Virginia the summer before my third grade year. I was a little chubby, socially awkward, and a complete nerd. Now I’m about to go into my junior year of high school and well… that hasn’t really changed. Just throw in a little more Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Doctor Who. When I first got to middle school, I found out real quickly that being a socially awkward, chubby dork was not exactly the road to popularity. Now I’ve never been one to strive to be “popular” or even admired. Attention was never on my list. But acceptance; that has always been something I have strived for. Not even acceptance so much as a chance to speak out. I knew I had some great things to say, but I couldn't find a voice loud enough to say it with. Some would have called me an outcast.
There were times when I thought there was no chance left for me to mean anything to the world. I do realize how melodramatic that seems. But middle school is one heck of a wake up call, more so than most believe. All of a sudden you’re thrown from childhood into a world where there are cliques, bullies, tougher classes, and so much responsibility. Sometimes it got a smidge overwhelming. Sometimes it seems like the world is against you, or even worse; that everyone is going through the same thing but no one has the guts to say it.  That was my problem. I had so much to say, but I felt that I had no one to say it to. That is what Esmerelda’s song leads me to think about. You never know who out there needs to say something important, something that will make you think. So many people are overlooked, but there are some, like Esmerelda, that do notice. And they are the ones who I would like to thank. I did end up finding my place. But I’m still working on finding myself and finding my own voice. So I challenge you to not overlook anyone. Help the outcasts, don’t ignore them. Like Quasimodo, you never know who has something important to say, they may just have to work a little harder to find their voice.

Tinkerbell Cosplay Anyone?

Just a small taste of the kind of pictures I'd like to post. This is one of myself as Tinkerbell, hopefully I'll be able to rally some friends to do more Disney cosplay!

Fly with you! (Fairy speak for hello or nice to meet you) My name's Meija, but that's a bit too difficult, so the internet knows me as Mimi. I'm a little new to this whole blogging thing. I guess I should start out with a bit about myself and my blog, huh? Well, here goes!

I got the blog idea from my mom, Ami. Though most know her better as the Disney Goddess. Being her daughter, I have been raised on Disney. But I've never really been the typical Disney girl. I've never been all that into the princesses. But I've always loved the other sides of disney, Pirates, Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, and above all, the Fairies. Tinkerbell and her friends will forever be special to me. Their world and everything about them fascinates me. The fairies will take up a lot of what I do on this blog. But in general, I'll really focus a lot on the not-so-princessy side of Disney, twist things up a little bit and look at it from a different angle. My blog will include articles, music, and photography. I'd love to do a little cosplay photography as well if I have the chance! Hope you like it!

P.S. Just in case you're wondering, there is in fact a difference between 'Fairy' and 'Faery.' 'Fairy' refers to the little winged creatures like Tinkerbell and her friends. 'Faerie' refers to the entire subject of mythical and legendary creatures and their lore, such as goblins, trolls, pixies, nymphs, sprites, and many many more. I will definitely write some about that as well. Fly again soon!
